How To Tell A Home Career Scam

Does the idea of working at home interest you? Do you like the sound of forging a home career, without all of the hassle of going back and forth from a regular job? For many people this idea is something that sounds very good indeed! While some people prefer the social atmosphere of a regular job, other people might prefer to be able to work in peace, without having to worry about their boss or their co-workers. It can also be much more comfortable to work at home, and cheaper due to being able to cut out travel costs and other expenses such as buying lunch. Having a home career can be a wonderful thing! However, there are dishonest people out there who recognize that many people desire to work from home, and they play on these desires to set up scams that will swindle people out of their time and / or money. There are unfortunately many of these scams around, however if you are smart about it you will be able to learn to tell the real opportunities from the fake ones and avoid costly scams.

Does it seem too good to be true?
The saying goes that if something seems too good to be true, then it probably is! It is no different with home career opportunities. If you have received an offer from a company that offers you thousands of dollars a month for only a few hours, then that should ring alarm bells. It is not likely that you will be able to find any job that you can do from home part time that will have you living like a millionaire! You should be able to find something that will pay you decently for the time that you put in to the job, but you need to be wary of any companies offering you more than that. How can you really earn $2000 a week doing data entry part time from home? You can’t! That would work out to being about $100 an hour, and that is far too high an hourly rate for simple data entry! When you are looking at a home career you will of course want to find the best return for your time, and make as much money as you can. But you need to be reasonable – look for something that falls within a normal price range, a normal hourly rate.

Are they asking you for money?
A classic home career scam is one that will require you to send money to get started. The company might ask you to pay for a “starter pack? containing all of the materials that you need to do your job. They might ask you to pay a registration fee, or some other type of fee. They might even ask you to cover the costs of postage or for the products for an assembly job. If anyone asks you to do this, keep this in mind – when you take a regular job, do you ever have to pay a registration fee? No! That is not the way jobs work, you will be employed to make money, not to pay it! Anyone who asks you for money IS trying to scam you, so do not fall for it. Make sure you only find home career jobs that will make you money, not cost you.

How to find out if the opportunity is legitimate
If you have been offered a home career job but you are still unsure as to whether it is legitimate, then there are steps that you can take to find out more information. Firstly, do an Internet search on both the type of job and the company that is offering it. This is a great way to find out further information. There might be Internet sites that list that particular job as a classic scam, and you will know that you should avoid it. Searching the company name is also a good idea. Avoid their website, which can easily be fraudulent, and try to find anywhere else that that company is listed. You might find that if this company has scammed someone else, that they have written about it on another website. This will be invaluable information to you! You could also ask for references from the company, however again it is easy to fake this sort of document and you will not be sure if it is written by who they say it is.

Having a home career can be a wonderful, relaxing job that you will love. All you need to do is to be aware of the scams out there and know how to avoid them. By following the points listed above and by being smart and wary, you will be likely to avoid scams and find yourself a great, legitimate home career.
